     Terrence J. Tate, a native of Wichita, Kansas, was installed as Senior Pastor of Historic Washington Avenue Baptist Church on April 7, 2019, after serving as associate pastor under Dr. Edward Alexander. Pastor Tate has a BA from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, with a concentration in religious studies. He also has several years of experience as a musician and musical director of ministries throughout Kansas. He even served as the Youth Musical Director of the Kansas Baptist Youth Convention, representing the Midwest region.

     Mrs. Ashanti Tate, a native of Enid, Oklahoma, is a fierce advocate for children and families and holds degrees from Wichita State University and the University of Chicago in the areas of social work and educational leadership. Mrs. Tate currently serves as a regional director with an organization focused on drug counseling and rehabilitation. 

     The Tates truly have a heart for people and ministry. They were married on August 2, 2014 and are proud parents of daughters Myracle and Zion; and a son, Emmanuel. They also serve as foster parents, welcoming children into their home and church family for several years. As Pastor Tate says, "Everybody needs somebody. When people are experiencing trials, having someone stand with them makes a difference."
